… “For love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.” ~ Solomon 8:6
There are multiple roots to jealousy…, and yes, insecurity is one of them. Insecurity causes people to withdraw from going after what their heart desires… and play the blame-game with other people.
Being jealous is a natural fear that you are going to lose something that’s important to you. Sometimes it’s real, sometimes it’s just imagined. So let’s look at some of the causes of insecurity…, which in turn, leads to jealousy.
Some people are preoccupied with the thoughts of not being good enough. They ask themselves questions such as; What if I’m not good enough? What if I lose my significant other? What if I fail? What if they don’t think I’m good enough? All of these “What-Ifs’ cause some major inner conflicts. Therefore, in a sense, jealousy itself… is just a very intense manifestation of your fears.
People always become angry when they are jealous. They can be angry because they don’t have what that person has, they don’t want to see people succeed, or they will place the blame for their lack of success… or their failures, on other people. Sometimes it’s comical, but sometimes it’s just downright scary to see someone like that.
Lack of Self-Esteem
This one is closely related to fear. Self-esteem in most cases, is something that manifests itself in childhood – but not that’s not always the case. Maybe the parents weren’t around all that much, maybe sibling rivalry caused it, or maybe they weren’t the favorite… if their parents were actually cruel enough to pick favorites. Or, it could be that… a person got teased by friends at school, overlooked by teachers or even got bullied at an early age.
Our society sends messages out that jealousy can seem like a good thing at times. Usually, this is caused by the perception that popular TV shows send out in their mixed messages, to attract viewers and to keep fans coming back. Teenage girls eat this up… and to them, societal illusions are reality. Weird, but true.
The more confident you are, the less room there is for insecurity and jealousy to creep into your life. In fact, there would almost be no possible way to be jealous!
Most people work hard, and they have a right to have nice things, and to be… or be with whomever they please. So never try to make others feel small and useless, because you are having a hard time trying to fill the void within yourself!
