5 Ways To Overcome A Negative Outlook On Life

Sow a thought, and you reap an act;

Sow an act, and you reap a habit;

Sow a habit, and you reap a character;

Sow a character, and you reap a destiny.”

You can’t think negatively and have faith, all at the same time. Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. So, the more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become.

Instead of looking back in negativity, wondering where your life went wrong, look ahead… to SEE WHERE YOU CAN GO RIGHT. You are going to be fine! If you know you’re a “Work in progress,” don’t jump ahead of yourself and try to be perfect. Everything about you is not perfect yet. Leave room for GOD to work in your life.

Actually, life is meant for you to live and strive for perfection… and not for you to beat yourself up when everything is not perfect – or doesn’t go as perfectly as you planned it.

Therefore, never measure your own progress – success or lack of success – by other people’s success. You don’t succeed by beating others, you succeed by growing yourself. An easy way to make yourself seem insignificant is to think about all the success someone who’s already established has, and then think about yourself NOW and how you don’t have any of that stuff yet.

I’m sure you’ve seen the quote below, by an unknown author… which has been shared virally over the past few years:

Watch your thoughts, they become words.

Watch your words, they become actions.

Watch your actions, they become habits.

Watch your habits, they become your character.

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”

The quote is true. When you have a negative outlook on life, you are pretty much saying, “GOD is not able to do… what He said He will do.” That doesn’t please GOD at all.

In reality, you have the ability to remove any negative thoughts whenever you want to. Most people just simply don’t understand that. Once you REALLY realize you have complete and total control over your thoughts and actions, life cam become much more enjoyable.

Here are some things you can try that could help you overcome negative thinking.

  1. Surround yourself with positive people. Talk to people who can put things into perspective and won’t feed your negative thinking.
  2. Change the tone of your thoughts from negative to positive.
  3. Don’t play the victim. You create your life—take responsibility.
  4. Be helpful to someone else. Take the focus away from you and do something nice for another person.
  5. Never dwell on your mistakes. Move forward with life – not backwards.
