“Why You Shouldn’t Let People Change You”

It’s next-to-impossible to be yourself when you’re constantly pondering, “I wonder what everyone is saying about me.” Or, “Do they like me? Do they think I’m ugly? Am I pretty/smart/popular enough to be a part of their group of friends?” Really! Who cares what other people say? To be yourself, you have to let go of these concerns and just let your behavior flow, with only your consideration of others as a filter — not their consideration of you. Besides, if you change yourself for one person or group, another person or group may not like you, and you could go on forever in a vicious cycle… trying to please people instead of focusing on building up your talents and strengths.

Just be yourself! It’s a simple… yet, very clear message. However; putting these words into action is not as easy as it sounds. However, you – and only you – are directly responsible for everything about… YOU! Other people can’t make you happy, angry, peaceful, upset or hateful. Whatever feelings or emotions that take place in your heart and mind are powerless until you pick them up and decide to act on them. People are not so worried about you, that you have to beat yourself up over every small detail in which you feel doesn’t impress them about you. As a matter of fact, most people are much too busy thinking about their own lives… and are probably more worried about what you are thinking and saying about them.

Your daily actions… moment by moment… are really what define who you are. One of the worst approaches to being yourself is to feel as if who you are, is defined by who you were in the past… based on past actions. Remember, though, that life brings changes everyday… and you must:

Allow yourself room to grow…

Allow yourself room to improve…

Allow yourself room to become wiser…

Forgive yourself…

Know how to move on…

If you allow past mistakes to linger in your mind… they will haunt you for the rest of your life. Take some time to figure out what the lessons are that past mistakes can teach you – learn their lessons and continue to grow.

The Bible is very clear about the fact that only through Faith in Jesus Christ are we able to succeed in anything. With that in mind, there’s no need to be overly concerned with things in your life that do not always work out as planned. Planning is only useful as a discipline to help you carefully maneuver through day to day events. Just keep your eyes on reality and trust GOD. The world changes constantly. Therefore; your plans… and how you approach things in life also have to change now and then.
