7 Reasons To Be Thankful

In our culture, there’s nothing quite like the holiday season. In the midst of the twists and turns… and all the hustle and bustle of life, there’s so much to be thankful to GOD for. Personally, I’m very thankful for all the opportunities I’ve been given: the chance to love and be loved by friends and family, the education and the traveling. Most of all though, I am overwhelmed by the love, care and kindness which GOD has granted me during my lifetime. I never take GOD for granted… because it is through Him that everything has the power and ability to exist.

What are you thankful for during this season of thanks? There are plenty of things that come to my mind when I consider the word “Thankful”. Some things all of us must be more conscious of are these:

1. Worries at the start of the day… mean you are still alive

2. Headache at the end of the day….means you can still work hard

3. Clothes that don’t fit… means you have a good appetite

4. The mess to clean after a gathering… means you have family around you

5. The roof that needs fixing… means you have a house to live in

6. Taxes to pay… means you’re not unemployed

7. Heartaches… mean you love selflessly

I asked some of my friends to chime in for this post… and share some of the random things they are thankful for. Here’s what some of them had to say:

“I am grateful that God has spared me yet another year and that through all of my struggles & hardships that HE continues to provide me with what I need (even when I don’t even realize what that may be).. I am also blessed & thankful to have “true friends” who allow me to be who I am without judging me…”

“I am first thankful for not only my life but that Jesus thought enough of me to die just for me! I am also thankful for a Christian husband, healthy children, a roof over our head w/heat thank you lord, my family in general, anointed vessels, wonderful friends like you (Patrick Williamson). I am truly Thankful for LIFE!”

~ Ingrid Garvin-Stallworth

“I am thankful for so many of life’s blessings this year. I am thankful first and foremost for the mercy God has given me and His infallible Word that always leads my path in the direction it needs to go, even when I want to go in the opposite direction. I am so thankful for my family, and for the laughter and wellbeing of my two sons. I am thankful for the true Christian friends that God has put in my life. I am thankful for my talents and that God has enabled me to use my talents to glorify Him. I am thankful for life, in general. So many people take each day for granted, but I have seen that our lives are truly “but a vapor” and we should live each and every moment to its full potential.”

“A few things I am thankful for (in no specific order):

That my 13 year old daughter knows Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at such a young age.

To be a mother.

A husband who loves me and makes me a better person and…this was huge for me…taught me that I don’t need to understand everything.

True friendships.

Learning how to love others because I am finally learning how to love myself.

That God spared the lives of my brother and his son, my nephew, where they were involved in a freak oil rig accident, in April of this year AND my sister-in-law and her strength and wisdom.

God’s mercy and grace.

People like Patrick Williamson, Joyce Meyer, TD Jakes, Paula White, Jeff Schreve who have helped me to understand this part of my journey through God’s Word.”

“As I sit here and ponder what I’m thankful for, the “usual suspects” come to mind. I’m thankful for my husband, my daughter, my extended family, my friends, a roof over my head, etc. And while I should be thankful for those things, I am extremely grateful for a sound mind.

Just the other day I was thanking God for my sanity. Considering some of the circumstances I’ve encountered just this year alone (some public, some private), I realize many end their lives over much less. Furthermore, without a sound mind, I wouldn’t even be able to enjoy the above-mentioned people or things I am thankful for.

Many of the heinous acts that are committed in our world, happen because people’s minds are being controlled by the enemy and not by God. I’ve proven God to be true once again. For I am a living testimony that “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3). This Thanksgiving I just want to say “Lord, I am thankful for my mind.”

“I am thankful for all the ways God has spoken to me this year… from issues with my kids, with work, moving… I’ve had so many things happen this year, I have just learned, however hard it may be, to give it to God, let Him.

I am thankful that God has blessed me with a man in my life who craves learning about God and how to walk with Him. I am thankful that it took 6 years of my life, as a single mother who wanted to give up hope on having a man in my life and the lives of my children, to be ready for someone who was ready for me and knows God is at the center and the head of our lives.

I am thankful for every precious moment with my children! They are both growing up so fast and I have been abundantly blessed to have the opportunity to raise them.

I am thankful for the new job I started today! It has definitely been an answered prayer, one that came quicker than expected.”

“The greatest gift that I can be thankful for is… I re-dedicated my life to the Lord and was baptized on January 27th. Thank God.”

“I am fully aware of the depth of sin from which I have been saved and am eternally thankful that God knew me from before the foundation of the world and has loved me since with a love that neither my human mind nor heart can comprehend – in spite of that sin. I am thankful for every twist and turn along my journey, for every pang of heartache, for every broken relationship because I learned not to depend on worldly happiness but rather to seek the true Joy that only comes from communion with the Father. I am thankful to be sheltered under the shadow of His wings while I am here, my home away from Home. He has not abandoned me. He will never leave me or forsake me. He sees me when I feel small and reveals Himself to me through His Word, His Creation, and His People. I am blessed.”

“I’m grateful for Life, Health & Strength! But most of all I’m grateful for God as my savior.”

~ Cheryl Penny

“I’m thankful that God has allowed me to provide for mg family. I was laid off from Chase in June and have been applying for different jobs, but haven’t gotten a call for employment. I’m just thankful with everything.”

~ Saundra Graham

“Truth be known, I am very thankful for revelation, no matter how much it may hurt. Thank you GOD, for your saving GRACE.”
