The biggest battle we can ever win in life… is the victory over self. Nothing else in life is even a close second.
I’m reminded of an old song we use to sing in praise service that says, “Victory is mine, victory is mine, victory today is mine… I told Satan, get thee behind; victory today is mine.” It’s a happy ‘war cry.’ In daily life, we have to fight with spiritual weapons, and allow the ‘Spiritual General’ Himself – JESUS – lead the way. No other being or power is qualified to lead us. Under JESUS’ authority, we are trained through the willful submissiveness of our spirits. And naturally we can do nothing for GOD, if we won’t allow Him access to our heart, mind and spirit.
When we have fights against family members, friends, or co-workers; in reality… it’s not solely a fight against them at all. It’s the work of the enemy behind the scenes. Remember the scripture,
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The flesh and blood that’s mentioned…is people. But, the principalities and the powers, etc…. well, that’s another story. They are the things the unseen… led by the enemy, that make their way into our lives to cause trouble.
Spiritually; therefore, we should never stop for rest, or take our eyes off GOD – in this cold war against the enemy. The moment we do, we give the enemy the ‘right of way’ to enter our lives… and to do as he pleases with us. Oh, how I wish I could ask the countless millions of people – who at the dawn of victory, lay down to rest – “What happened? “What caused the enemy to overtake you and turn you away from GOD? And they all would probably echo the same words… “I thought I was strong enough to handle my situation” or “I never seriously thought the enemy would ever get the best of me the way he did… and cause me to turn away from GOD.”
Yet, the reason so many people have given up on the Christian race is because they never learned to conquer themselves, which is the greatest victory. Instead, ‘self’ conquered them. But, “Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting.” The one who continues to fight in spite of what the circumstances look like. And that’s how we all must fight… not with our eyes on the problem, but with our eyes on GOD.
At all costs, in spite of all terror; however long and hard the road may be – every day we have to show up in life ready to fight. Yet, every battle belongs to GOD… and all He wants us to do is bring our Faith to the battle… and He will do the fighting for us.
